That’s Me

ABBA

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Are you sure you wanna hear more?
What if I ain't worth the while
Not the style you'd be looking for?
If I'm sweet tonight
Things look different in the morning light
I'm jealous and I'm proud
If you hurt my feelings I'll cry out loud
I'm Carrie, not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry
That's me

[Verse 2]
Are you sure you wanna hear more?
Would I be the one you seek
Mild and meek like the girl next door?
Don't you realise
I may be an angel in disguise
It's lonely to be free
But I'm not a man's toy, I'll never be
I'm Carrie, not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry
That's me

[Bridge]
I don't believe in fairy tales
Sweet nothings in my ear
But I do believe in sympathy
That's me, you see
[Verse 3]
Are you sure you wanna hear more?
Won't you have a drink with me
Just to see you're not really sore?
I can't help my ways
I'm just not the girl to hide my face
I'm Carrie, not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry
That's me, mhm
I'm Carrie, not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry
That's me

[Interlude]

[Outro]
There's a special love
Like an eagle flying with a dove
I'll find it in the end
If I keep on searching, but until then
I'm Carrie, not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry
That's me

With over 30 years having passed since the group bade farewell to one another, their music still remains as popular as ever, even being the subject of numerous tribute acts and movies in recent years. One of their lesser-known tracks, “That’s Me”, was recorded by the group ABBA back in 1976, and is an interesting chapter in their history, as well as in music history itself.

About That’s Me

Originally released in Japan in 1977 to promote the band’s Arrival album, “That’s Me” was recorded by ABBA, one of the world’s most beloved pop groups of all time. A music video was also created to promote the song, featuring a combination of original footage and clips from previous promo videos.

Despite being released as a B-side to “Dancing Queen” in most regions, “That’s Me” still managed to achieve a respectable number 75 on Japan’s official charts. The song is notable for its catchy melody and upbeat tempo, which is characteristic of ABBA’s signature sound.

One of the interesting things about this song is that it was originally titled “Coachman’s Farm” before being renamed to “That’s Me”. This is a testament to how music is created, with even some of the world’s most successful songs going through a significant amount of changes before being released.

As mentioned earlier, a music video was created for “That’s Me” during the making of ABBA-dabba-doo! TV special in 1976. The video was not released until 1993, when it was included in the “More ABBA Gold” video compilation as extra content.

“That’s Me” showcases the incredible vocal range of ABBA’s members, including Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The song is a testament to the band’s ability to combine catchy pop melodies with thoughtful and introspective lyrics, a combination that has made their music stand the test of time.

Lyrically, “That’s Me” is a song about self-awareness and acceptance of one’s flaws and shortcomings. The lyrics speak to individuals who may be feeling lost or uncertain about themselves, and serves as a reminder that nobody is perfect, and that it’s okay to make mistakes and be imperfect.

The song’s opening lyrics set the tone for the rest of the track:

Are you sure you want to hear more
What if I ain’t worth the while
Not the style you’d be looking for
If I’m not sweet enough for you baby
Tell me honestly
Do I come too strong?

The chorus of the song is equally memorable, with its uplifting melody and reassuring lyrics:

That’s me, I’m the one you’re looking for
That’s me, if you need some more
That’s me, eager to please
If I misbehave, it’s just my way of finding my way

In the end, “That’s Me” may not be one of ABBA’s most well-known songs, but it still holds a special place in their discography, and is a testament to the band’s incredible musical talent and ability to connect with their fans on an emotional level. Fans of the group and lovers of pop music will always cherish this song, and the memories that it evokes.
