Gen Hoshino's journey in music began during his student years when he embarked on both music and theater activities. In 2000, he formed the instrumental band SAKEROCK, where he served as the central figure. The band quickly gained recognition, and in 2010, Hoshino released his first solo album, 'ばかのうた' ('Baka no Uta'), followed by his second album, 'エピソード' ('Episode'), in 2011. His talent was reflected in their success as his second single, 'フィルム' ('Film'), reached fourth place on the Oricon Weekly Chart in February 2012.

Hoshino's talent continued to blossom, and he gained prominence with subsequent hit singles such as '夢の外へ' ('Yume no Soto e') for ANESSA's commercial, and '知らない' ('Shiranai'). In May 2013, he released his third album, 'Stranger,' which debuted at second place on the Oricon Weekly Chart. His sixth single, '地獄でなぜ悪い' ('Jigoku de Naze Warui'), released in October of the same year, made its debut at fifth place on the Oricon Weekly Chart. The momentum continued, with Hoshino achieving great success with the release of his first double A-side single, 'Crazy Crazy/桜の森' ('Crazy Crazy/Sakura no Mori'), in June 2014, which reached fourth place on the Oricon Weekly Chart.
