Fitz and The Tantrums started as a result of Michael Fitzpatrick writing the song "Breakin' the Chains of Love" in 2008. He then contacted his college friend James King, who suggested Noelle Scaggs as the co-lead singer. John Wicks joined the team as the percussionist, while Joseph Karnes and Jeremy Ruzumna joined as the bassist and keyboardist, respectively, to fully form the band. The band's debut performance was at the Hotel Café in Hollywood, and from there on, they recorded four albums.

Their first EP, "Songs for a Breakup, Vol. 1," was released on August 11th, 2009, followed by their first studio album, "Pickin' Up the Pieces," on August 24th, 2010. Their second studio album, "More than Just a Dream," was released on May 7th, 2013, and their self-titled third studio album was released on June 10th, 2016. In 2017, they released the single "Fool" in June. All of these works have received great feedback from their fans and the press.
