Born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson in Santa Barbara, California in 1984, she began her music career in gospel music as a teenager, but soon found her true calling in mainstream pop music. About Katy Perry

Katy Perry was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California. Though she came from a deeply religious family, Perry had little exposure to mainstream pop music in her childhood. Instead, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager, which allowed her to develop her singing and songwriting skills. She even released her debut self-titled studio album in 2001, which was a gospel music album.

Despite her early success in the gospel genre, Katy Perry soon realized that her true passion lay in mainstream pop music. She reinvented herself as a party girl pop star, breaking out with 2008’s One of the Boys, which featured the chart-toppers “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot n Cold.”

Her follow-up album, Teenage Dream, made Perry even more ubiquitous in the pop landscape. The album equaled Michael Jackson’s record of five chart-toppers on the same album. Perry released an updated version of the album, titled Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection and concert film Katy Perry: Part of Me in 2012.

After her fourth album, she began promoting her fifth album Witness by releasing the Skip Marley collaboration “Chained to the Rhythm” on February 10, 2017. Two singles “Bon Appétit” featuring Migos and “Swish Swish” featuring Nicki Minaj followed before the release of the album. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard #200, marking her third #1 in the U.S.

Katy Perry has long been a major force for pop music in the United States and worldwide. She has released five studio albums, one live album, two extended plays, 34 singles (including ten featured appearances), four promotional singles, and a multitude of music videos. Over the course of her career, she has sold more than 18 million albums and 125 million singles worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.

As a philanthropist, Katy Perry has always focused on making a positive impact on the world. She has worked with various charitable organizations, such as the Children’s Health Fund, the American Red Cross, and the Humane Society. She has also been a key advocate for LGBT rights and worked closely with organizations such as the Trevor Project and The Ali Forney Center.

Katy Perry has also been recognized for her incredible talent and contributions to music. She has been nominated for numerous awards, including 13 Grammy Awards. Perry was also named Billboard's Woman of the Year in 2012 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2014.

Despite the challenges that come with being a superstar in the music industry, Katy Perry has continued to push forward and make herself a force for good in the world. Her incredible talent and dedication to her craft have solidified her place among the greatest pop artists of our time, while her philanthropy and advocacy have made her an incredible role model for young people all over the world.
