New Edition is a legendary R&B group that paved the way for many of the boy bands that followed them during the 1980s and 1990s. With over two decades of experience, the Boston-based quintet consisted of Ralph Tresvant, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, and Ronnie DeVoe. They inspired and enchanted their audience with their smooth harmonies, energetic dance moves, and stylish attire. They introduced an innovative blend of pop, R&B, dance, and doo-wop music that created a unique sound that became their signature style.

About New Edition

New Edition was discovered by producer Maurice Starr in the early 1980s, and they released their debut album Candy Girl in 1983. The album produced several chart-topping hits, including "Candy Girl," "Popcorn Love," and "Is This the End." After a financial dispute, the group parted ways with Starr and released their second self-titled album in 1984. Two of their biggest hits, "Cool It Now" and "Mr. Telephone Man," were featured on this album.

Before the end of 1985, Bobby Brown was voted out of the group due to his disruptive behavior. Afterwards, lead singer Ralph Tresvant was considering a solo career as the group’s future was in question. Nevertheless, Johnny Gill joined the group in 1987, and the quintet produced their most popular album, Heart Break, with producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis in 1988. Released on the same day as Bobby Brown’s "Don’t Be Cruel" album, Heart Break features two of New Edition's most celebrated hits: "If It Isn’t Love" and "Can You Stand the Rain."

In 1990, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, and Bell Biv Devoe all achieved great success with their individual activities. They came together to release the album Home Again in 1996, which became a multi-platinum success. Nevertheless, after some friction during the Home Again tour, Bobby Brown decided to leave the group again.

In 2004, New Edition signed with Bad Boy Records and released their album One Love before departing a year later due to a lack of promotion. Today, the group continues to entertain audiences worldwide, selling out shows everywhere they go. The group was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on January 23, 2017, and the BET premiered their three-night mini-series "The New Edition Story" the following day.

New Edition has had a significant impact on pop culture and continues to be an influence on the R&B industry. They paved the way for many artists who followed them and helped transform the genre into the style people know and love today. Moreover, the group demonstrated incredible musical prowess and managed to keep their relevance for over two decades.

New Edition remains one of the most iconic R&B groups of all time, and their music and style will continue to influence future generations. They have left a lasting legacy in the industry, and their music will never be forgotten.
