PNL, also known as Peace N’ Lovés, is a French rap duo hailing from the Cité des Tarterêts in Corbeil-Essonnes (91). Comprised of two brothers, Tarik (Ademo) and Nabil (N.O.S), PNL is credited with popularizing "cloud rap" in France. With their unique sound and captivating lyrics, they have captured the attention of audiences and critics alike, solidifying their place in the French rap scene.

Before coming together as PNL, both Ademo and N.O.S ventured into solo careers. It was in early 2015 that they joined forces and released their debut mixtape, "Que La Famille" (sometimes abbreviated as "QLF"), which quickly became their signature slogan. The buzz surrounding this release was immense, and less than a year later, on October 30, 2015, PNL dropped their second project, "Le Monde Chico."

Their third project and second album, appropriately titled "Dans la légende", was released on September 16, 2016. This album, available in slightly different versions ("Orange" and "Rose"), achieved both critical and commercial success. It quickly became a phenomenon, captivating listeners and the media alike. With over 900,000 sales in France, "Dans la légende" earned PNL a diamond certification.

PNL's third studio album, "Deux frères", was released on April 5, 2019, and was highly anticipated by fans. This album became the most awaited album of the year due to the duo's usual discretion following the release of "Dans la légende." The album's three singles, "À l'ammoniaque," "91's," and "Au DD," broke multiple streaming records in France. Within five days of its release, "Deux frères" achieved platinum certification, selling over 113,000 copies in its first week alone. The album continued its success and reached triple platinum status with over 300,000 sales in France.

PNL's Unique Approach

One of the factors contributing to PNL's success is their unconventional approach to the music industry. They have chosen to maintain relative anonymity, granting no interviews or public appearances. This aura of mystery has helped build the "PNL myth," portraying the two brothers as "banlieusards" (suburban dwellers) torn between vice and reason, drugs and music. They have relied solely on themselves and their inner circle to rise to prominence, now standing at the forefront of French rap alongside other renowned artists.

Another distinctive feature of PNL's music is their unique style. Rather than strictly rapping, they incorporate melodic singing into their songs. Utilizing heavy autotune effects, they use their voices as instruments, bringing a fresh and innovative sound to French hip-hop. Their pioneering approach sets them apart, breathing new life into the genre.

In addition to their music, PNL is well-known for their visually stunning music videos. They work with acclaimed director Mess to create captivating visuals that transport the viewer into their world. Their videos can be divided into two categories: lavish clips shot all over the globe (from Iceland to Namibia), and narrative-driven clips set in their own neighborhood, the Cité des Tarterêts in Corbeil-Essonnes. These videos bring PNL's lyrics and universe to life, embodying the essence of their creed: "Que La Famille," which signifies providing for their loved ones by any means, no matter how illicit.

Achievements and Certifications

PNL's success is not only evident in their fanbase but also in their record-breaking certifications. Their album "Le Monde Chico" achieved triple platinum status in France. "Dans la légende" earned diamond certification in France with over 900,000 sales by summer 2020, and also sold over a million copies worldwide. Their album "Deux frères" was certified diamond in France. In addition to album sales, PNL has achieved numerous certifications for their singles, including 44 gold, 21 platinum, and 10 diamond certifications.

With a discography that captivates audiences and a unique approach that challenges conventions, PNL continues to push boundaries in the French music industry. Their enigmatic presence, innovative sound, and visually stunning videos have solidified their position as one of the most influential rap duos today.
