About Sexion d’Assaut

Sexion d'Assaut is a Parisian group that emerged in the 2000s as a collective before solidifying into a seven-member group. The group's lineup consists of Gims, Black M, Lefa, Maska, Barack Adama, JR O Crom, and Doomams. Led by their manager Dawala, Sexion d'Assaut signed with the independent label Wati B, and they have left an indelible mark on the French music scene. The group's journey began with the formation of the collective, within which the group 3ème Prototype was born. This octet grew out of the fusion of the groups Assonance and Prototype 3015. During this time, 3ème Prototype began to garner attention and build a dedicated fanbase through the release of mixtapes such as "La terre du milieu" and "Le renouveau," as well as freestyles and daily videos on platforms like YouTube and Skyblog. In 2009, Sexion d'Assaut transitioned from being a collective to a formal group and signed with the major label Believe Music. Their debut project, "L'écrasement de tête," was released on May 4th of the same year as a precursor to their first studio album. The album, titled "L'école des points vitaux," was released on March 23, 2010, under their new label, Sony Music France. It achieved remarkable success, propelled by hit singles such as "Désolé," "Wati by Night," and "J'ai pas les loves," and earned triple platinum certification with over 300,000 copies sold in France within eleven months. Following the success of their debut album, Sexion d'Assaut released the mixtape "En attendant L’Apogée: Les Chroniques du 75, Vol. 2" on April 4, 2011. The mixtape, comprising twenty tracks and featuring no collaborations, enjoyed impressive sales of 16,380 copies in its first week. The group's second studio album, "L'Apogée," was released on March 5, 2012, accompanied by a reissue containing seven additional tracks. Within seven months, the album reached diamond certification, surpassing 500,000 copies sold. The group also received accolades at the NRJ Music Awards 2013, winning Best Francophone Group of the Year and Francophone Song of the Year for "Avant qu'elle parte." Despite the anticipation surrounding their third studio album, "Le retour des rois," which was slated for release on May 14, 2022, the album was eventually canceled due to a disagreement within the group. Gims, a prominent member of Sexion d'Assaut, expressed that it was better to stop at that point. In their impressive career spanning over a decade, Sexion d'Assaut has made a significant impact on the French music industry. Their unique blend of rap and hip-hop, coupled with their energetic performances and introspective lyrics, has garnered them a dedicated fan following. They continue to be recognized as one of the most influential and successful music groups in France, leaving an enduring legacy in the world of French music.
