About Tory Lanez

Tory Lanez's journey to becoming one of the most celebrated musicians in the world wasn't easy. Born to a missionary preacher father and a mother who sadly passed on when he was still young, Tory's formative years were marked by numerous challenges and hardships.

Tory began rapping when he was just nine years old. As a teenager, he honed his craft and grew his following, dropping mix tapes and building a fan base along the way. After releasing several mixtapes, Tory Lanez dropped his debut studio album, "I Told You," on August 19th, 2016, which garnered over 50,000 album units shortly after its release.

A few years later, Tory Lanez established himself as one of the music industry's finest artists, following the release of his second album, "MEMORIES DON'T DIE" in 2018. Despite his hometown being Toronto, Tory Lanez’s album was heavily influenced by his upbringing in Miami, Florida. On October 26th, 2018, Tory Lanez released his third studio album, “Love Me Now?” which was inspired by his near-death experience during a plane crash earlier the same year.

By 2019, Tory had become a household name, thanks to his fourth studio album, "Chixtape 5," which was a continuation of his predominantly R&B mixtape series. This album garnered widespread popularity, with fans and critiques alike recognizing and appreciating Tory's incredible vocal range and songwriting skills.

Amidst it all came the controversial altercation mid 2020 that involved Houston rapper, Megan Thee Stallion, and Tory Lanez. Megan Thee Stallion was allegedly shot by Tory Lanez during this altercation, after which Tory was jailed on gun charges. After a period of three months of silence following the incident, Tory emerged with "DAYSTAR," his sixth studio album, which was centered around the alleged shooting incident and his side of the story.

The Origin of His Stage Name

Inspiration behind His Wild Live Shows

Tory's live shows are always the highlight of his tours, featuring wild dance moves and electrifying performances that get the fans cheering for more. Tory has often attributed his unique stage presence to his father, a missionary preacher, who he watched growing up. Tory admired how his father could deliver a message to the congregants and still make them laugh by cracking a joke in between.

In a 2016 YouTube interview, Tory said, "Watching my dad as a preacher plays a big part in it. Number one, him being a preacher, I always saw him level out his voice and then scream when it was time for it… Like me watching that… growing up, I think that played a big part in my presentation on stage, my wittiness because my dad was one of those preachers where he's in church, and he can deliver a message to you at the same time but he can also take a second off and be witty, for a second, and make a joke…"
