Yazoo

Yazoo was a British synthpop duo consisting of Vince Clarke, who was the producer and played the keyboards, and Alison Moyet, an incredibly talented singer with a contralto range. Known as Yaz in North America due to a naming conflict with Yazoo Records, the band was an instant hit in the UK music scene during the early 1980s.

About Yazoo

Vince Clarke, the founder of Yazoo, was also the initial keyboardist and primary songwriter of Depeche Mode. After the release of their debut album "Speak & Spell" in November 1981, Clarke left Depeche Mode and placed an ad for a vocalist. Alison Moyet quickly joined the team, and their musical genius combined to create a sound that was entirely different from anything out there.

Yazoo released only two albums, "Upstairs at Eric's" and "You and Me Both," during their short stint. Still, they managed to achieve considerable success in the British music industry with five singles that reached the UK top 40 charts.
